What is Laser Therapy?

Low level laser therapy is the application of visible red or
near-infrared light emitted from a low power laser for therapeutic purposes.

Laser therapy is a safe, non-invasive, non-toxic therapy
with no recorded side effects. Low-level lasers operate at
very low levels of power and unlike high-power lasers, low-level lasers do not heat or damage human tissue.

It has been used throughout the world for over 20 years
and provides accelerated healing and pain relief.

The laser device is held against the skin over the area being treated. Low-level lasers emit wavelengths of light in the visible red to near-infrared red range, which penetrate deeply into the tissues.

Laser therapy delivers light energy units in the form of photons to damaged cells. Experts agree that photons absorbed by the cells through laser therapy stimulate the mitochondria to accelarate production of ATP.

This biochemical increase in cell energy is used to transform cells from a state of illness to a stable, healthy state. This reduces pain and inflammation, and benefits the immune system.

Conditions Treated With Laser Therapy (LLLT):

  • Acute & chronic pain
  • Arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Bursitis
  • Ligament strains
  • Muscle strains
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Post-Operative wound healing
  • Tennis & Golfer's Elbow

Benefits of Laser Therapy (LLLT):

  • Non- toxic
  • Non-invasive
  • No Side Effects or pain
  • Very safe
  • Highly Effective for Patient (more than 90% efficiency)
  • Decrease in use of pharmaceuticals (i.e Pain medication)
  • Reduces need for surgery

Therapeutic Laser biological effects*:

  • Rapid Cell Growth: laser light accelerates cellular reproduction and growth.

  • Faster wound healing: Laser light stimulates fibroblast development and accelerates collagen synthesis in damaged tissue.

  • Increased Metabolic Activity: Higher outputs of specific enzymes, greater oxygen and food particle loads for blood cells and thus greater production of the basic food source for cells Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP).

  • Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation: Laser light reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from cuts, scratches, burns or post surgery.

  • Anti-Inflammatory Action: Laser light reduces swelling caused by bruising or inflammation of joints to give enhanced joint mobility.

  • Increased Vascular Activity: Laser light induces temporary vasodilation increasing blood flow to damaged areas.

  • Stimulated Nerve Function: Slow recovery of nerve function in damaged tissue can result in ''dead'' limbs or numb areas. Laser light speeds the process of nerve cell reconnection to bring the numb areas back to life.

We utilise the TerraQuant laser system which is manufactured by Multiradiance Medical.
The manufacturer of this system has been involved with the research and development of Low Level Laser Therapy ( LLLT) System since the 1980's.

Please refer to Multiradiance Medical's website for further information: www.multiradiance.com

Numerous randomised double blind clinical trials showed the efficiency of the TerraQuant laser on various health conditions. An 88% positive effect was demonstrated in studies done on the efficiency of the TerraQuant Laser in relieving pain caused by arthritis of small and medium joints.
